This free, drop-in program includes a story time with Morningside University Spanish Club reading “Dia de Muertos Números – A Day of the Dead Counting Book,” and a hands-on activity where children can learn about and help build a traditional ofrenda (Day of the Dead altar). Visitors will also have the opportunity to create papel picado, a symbolic, decorative banner for Day of the Dead, that will be used in the exhibit space.

Perfect for preschoolers and early elementary kids (but everyone’s welcome!), this playful hour is packed with hands-on activity stations, crafts to make and take, and a fun gallery activity.

Grown-ups and kids learn and explore together—no need to register, just stop by!

The Sioux City Public Museum and Sergeant Floyd River Museum will participate in Downtown Sioux City’s Fall Fest, on October 11 and 12, with activities for the whole family.

Kids’ Saturday: Get Ready for Day of the Dead will be held on October 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. This free, drop-in program includes a story time and a hands-on activity where children can learn about and help build a traditional ofrenda (Day of the Dead altar). Visitors will also have the opportunity to create papel picado, a symbolic, decorative banner for Day of the Dead, that will be used in the exhibit space. Activities are designed for preschool and early-elementary-aged children, but all are welcome to join the fun.

The scavenger hunt and papel picado activity will be available all day on October 11 and 12.

The Sergeant Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center will also participate in Fall Fest on October 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a scavenger hunt inside the boat. When children complete the scavenger hunt, they can choose a small pumpkin or gourd as a prize while supplies last.

Siouxland Comedy returns to Eddie's Tavern, this time with Alex Kaufman & Ocho De La Rosa!

Headliner: Alex Kaufman
After growing up in over a dozen cities in the US and abroad, Alex Kaufman began doing stand-up during his college years in Tacoma, in the process founding the now iconic Bob’s Comedy Jive. He then moved to New York before ending up in Bozeman, Montana, to get a PhD in theoretical gravity — and then procrastinated so hard he accidentally started the production company, Bone Dry Comedy. Today, Bone Dry runs a circuit of shows bringing the likes of Amy Miller, Billy Wayne Davis, Kate Willett, and dozens of other headliners to multiple cities in Montana.

Since then, he’s featured for Kyle Kinane, Sean Patton, and more, and performed at festivals including Finger Lakes Comedy Festival, Mutiny Radio Comedy Festival, and Loons on the Lake. You can catch him throughout Montata, and at clubs, festivals, and shows around the country.

Feature: Ocho De La Rosa
Ocho De La Rosa is a little comedian with a big mouth and even bigger heart. Originally from San Antonio, TX and now residing in Omaha, De La Rosa gives a performance that is unique and relatable; and while it leaves crowds laughing, it also leaves them questioning their sanity and maybe their sexuality. De La Rosa seamlessly blends their quirky charm and quick wit in performances across many Midwest bar stages and the occasional comedy club. De La Rosa puts their heart on the stage the same way they put their backwards hat on their head- intentionally fumbled.

Host: Drake Strong
Drake Strong born and raised in Sioux City, and co-runner of Siouxland Comedy has preformed across the miswest and opened for Kevin Farley and Steven Michael Quezada. He jokes about his life, family, and observations of the world with a dark twist at times.

Show will be at Eddies Tavern is located in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. It is locally owned and severing great food and great drinks.

The Sioux City Public Museum honors Day of the Dead with a day of celebration, including music, dancing, refreshments, face painting, and children’s crafts. The Museum also hosts an exhibit of Day of the Dead Altars, created by community members and on display October 21-November 2.

This year’s theme is El Aire Que Nos Une (The Air That Unites Us). The celebration will be held October 26, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Sioux City Public Museum. This event is free to attend.

Are you ready to settle in for some fall weather comfort food? Visit with friends both old and new while enjoying your choice of over a dozen homemade chili and soup offerings. The usual fixings will be provided, as well as desserts and beverages (including beer and wine!) all in exchange for a freewill donation and a smile!
Chili and soup will be served while quantities last from 4 to 6:30pm in the church basement, but our doors will open at 3:30pm. Can’t stay long? We'll have containers available (suggested additional donation of $2 each) so you can take your chili to go or you can avoid single-use materials by bringing your own.

Enjoy these happenings on the main level:
*Learn more about the Loess Hills Audubon Society and bid on the great finds offered in their silent auction until 6pm. There may be something you can't live without, and you'll support a good cause! Cash and checks only, please.
*Contribute to "Change for Change", the church's effort to help neighbors and community organizations.

Three handicap parking spots are available:
*Find two on Jackson St and one just outside the alley door. A volunteer will be on hand to operate the lift which accesses all floors for those who would rather not use the steps.

Two separate fundraisers under one roof:
*This is our group's only fundraiser. Donations from the door, beverage table, and to-go options support Northwest Iowa Group of Sierra Club's conservation and outreach efforts. Cash and checks are preferred.
