Join the Western Iowa Tech Community Choir. Vocal Music Instructor and Director of Choral Activities, William Darwin, Jr., will be leading the choir on Tuesday nights. Aaron Kerr’s Dissonant Creature (AKDC), a seven-piece heavy metal/jazz fusion ensemble from St. Paul, Minnesota, will perform at the Akron Opera House at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. The concert is the final stop on the ensemble’s six stop tour to celebrate the release of its live studio album, Scorpio Rising.

AKDC has been performing together for more than 15 years, featuring Aaron Kerr - electric cello; Brett Hansen - guitar; Jonathan Townsend - drums; Chris Andresen - bass; Mike Nordby - mandolin and percussion; Jeff Crandall – guitar and keyboard; and Sean Egan – clarinet.

Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

On Sunday, May 11 at 2:00 PM at the Betty Strong Encounter Center, Jack and Mike Langley will brighten our day with a “Celebration of Mother’s Day.” Admission is free; reception follows.

Mother’s Day always evokes a heart-warming presentation from this father and son duo. Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world and most commonly in the months of March or May.

The Langleys will share their vast musical talents with a mix of original and old favorite tunes. They have performed together onstage for more than 40 years, from Sioux City to Nashville, Tennessee, to Vienna, Austria and back. They are always a crowd favorite at the Center.
